Wyclef and The Haiti's Earthquake

Wyclef and The Haiti's Earthquake
January 2010 will no doubt go down as the worst month in the Haitian People History. On the 12th of that month, Mother Nature dealt the Republic one of severest blow that the developed world has ever witnessed. Everyone, regardless of races or origins, was glued to there TV set day after day to watch the terrible devastation that we have been subjected to. The world responded with outpouring sympathy, aids, prayer, moneys, and supports. While some of us can’t but watch them descended in the country to help our brother and sisters, others are doing what they can. Among them, a little known organization named “Yele Haiti” or “Wyclef Jean Foundation”. Quickly they challenged everyone to start donating monies for the relief effort that was going to be needed. They have been on the ground years earlier helping the least fortunate in all kind of ways; or so they claimed. Like a little fish in a big pond of giant Aid Organizations, they joined in the relief process. No sooner than, they were in the ground, the Foundation got attacked by major news organizations of mishandling funds. Why now? Why him? Why not?
Is it because they are too little to challenge the likes of the Red Cross and others? Is it because he, Wyclef Jean, is himself Haitian? Or, is it because of all those reasons? I must admit that I too, am skeptical of Yele Haiti for a lot of reasons. I don’t know what they do for I never inquire or seek that information. Being the passive that I am, I usually give kudos to those who try to help Haiti. Specially if they are doing it without my money. When on the night of January 12, 2010; I saw Wyclef Jean himself soliciting money to help Haiti; I thought I’d check to see what they are all about. I got on their published website to find that none of the links were working. I could not find anything about them.
I was still ready to give them the benefit of the doubt, until the media start claiming that funds collected earlier are being misused. Since then, I’ve gone back to the website several other times to find no improvement. Finally last week, at the insistence of friends, I went back to find a much improved site, with working links, although just brief statements.
I’m not convinced to give them my full and unwavering support yet. But, I think they’re on the right track to becoming a more accountable organization. One that Haitians all over will be proud of; when they get there. In the mean time, they need to recognize 1st and foremost, “transparency” is a must in becoming a reputable charity organization. But, most of all they need to realize that they need help, and they should not try to do it alone. There are brilliant, competent, responsible Haitians all over the world that can land a hand if not their money. And last, they must be willing to learn. I encourage anyone who can help to do so in any capacity they can; but to use cautions.

  1. HAITIANS "Wake Up"
During the September 11 disater, the Red Cross collected $564 millions in donation under the auspices of the Liberty fund. Months later, the Red Cross has distributed only $154 to victims of 9/11. The Red Cross said that the rest willbe used to "fight the war on terror". When asked "Where did the money go?" Dr. Bernadine Heale, the president of Red Cross said." The Liberty Fund is a war fund. It has evolved into the war".
In 1989, after the San Francisco earthquake, the Red Cross passed on only $10 millions of the $50 millions that has been raised.(Conspiracy Planet, Corporate-Govt Fraud Channel)

  2. What a surprise! No one has any comment? I don't want to force you to say something; specially if you don't have anything to say on the subject. But somehow I doubt it. In support or in refute; The Gran' Wiz usually cooborate Da Kid and the Yute, Da Skeptic, naturally asks for more clarification. But this time, "chat pran lang tout moun". "Haitians" as the Kid would call us, take a stand, speak your mind, but don't cruel. I'm calling on the whole "Meeting Group" to step up and make this debate more lively. I can smell garbage and dead people all over. Wake up! Rise up! Join us!

  3. "DA KING", it is what it is. We Haitians, our problems run deep! I trust the "Law of probability", when it comes to dealing with our people, our race I live by it. The percentage of haitians, blacks whom are willing and ready to do anything for our country, our race is very low. And if you are not carefull, all your energy will get suck out of you. We got work to do KING, hope you will remain focus. Keep the blog and broaden your BASE

  6. Here are some informations I got for you guys, I think this will help us to know the source of some donations and where they are going,if we could track them !!!!Beside Yele Haiti and Clinton-Bush We also have all the following organizations that collect money on behalf of Haiti to support the victims. They are Red Cross,NetHope,Save The Children,World Vision International,Care, MercyCorps, and Unicef. When I look online to search for how much money they collected already, I could not find any informations on that. All I could get is the following:
2010 Haiti EarthquakeOn January 12, 2010, a 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck near the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince. Microsoft has activated its Disaster Response Team to monitor the situation in Haiti and support response efforts as appropriate. Through Microsoft’s support, nonprofit partner NetHope has been able to set up an immediate response, with specific focus on establishing temporary telecommunications infrastructure to allow humanitarian agencies to communicate and provide relief to the affected victims.

    Monetary Donations:
Microsoft has made an initial commitment of $1.25 million, which includes cash and in-kind contributions. To date, in the U.S. alone, more than 4,000 Microsoft employees have donated over $770,000 to over 200 organizations providing disaster relief to Haiti. Microsoft has an employee matching program where employee donations are matched each year up to $12,000 per employee, this brings the value of employee donations to Haiti to approximately $1.5 million.
